We are coming up on living in this really really old house for a year. An exciting milestone. This year has been full of adventures and surprises. Learning to live in a new house is always interesting, learning to live in an old house, well that is something else.
We live here!
Our house was built in 1845! Pretty cool right? Pretty cold! The previous owners restored as much of the house as they could. (Which is a lot) There is new wiring and plumbing throughout and many other updates. But...it is still a house that was built 168 years ago, it has many more things it needs. We are in the middle of many projects, the front porch is half done, the downstairs bathroom only has a toilet (not even water to it), and we have started an island-dishwasher project in the kitchen. Always a work in process around here.
Along with learning the house and it's character, we have had to learn our land. We went from owning a postage stamp size yard to ten acres. A big difference. Mowing takes forever! We picked berries all summer and we are still learning what plants we have.
We have a few things planned for this next year. Chickens are in the future, more gardening, and more canning. I can't wait for many more years here!
